Laura Harvey - Artist's Statement
As a mixed media artist, I create intricately layered collages on a variety of substrates: traditional birch panels, battered doors, even old windows. To intuitively build each piece, I draw from a rich and unique collection of media and vintage ephemera, building layers using paint, papers (found, purchased and hand painted), acrylic mediums, photo transfers and more. I derive a storyteller's satisfaction seeing each piece evolve during the creative process - from the initial blur of an idea to a completed visual composition.
